1.  TRI-R-ATHON - this Friday, March 7th - please remember to bring in your sponsorship money this week.
2. 5th Grade T-Shirt Orders are due MONDAY, MARCH 10th - we are asking for a donation of $10 to cover the cost of the t-shirts.  Your child brought home an order form (bright red paper) on Friday.  My suggestion is to order a size larger than normal.

This Friday (March 7th) is the Tri-R-Athon - it is a great fundraiser for Van Gogh.  Your child will be participating in 3 activities at school - reading, running and 'rithmatic  - we are asking that your child collects sponsorship for participating in all three activities.

How exciting, we're going to visit JPL tomorrow!!

Tomorrow's field trip to JPL is going to be very exciting for us all. This is the first time Van Gogh will be experiencing this trip and I'm sure the students (& adults) are going to find it fascinating.  Here's the link to their website - there are some great kid friendly sites to explore.

Please remember that your child must bring a sack lunch with a drink that is in a plastic bottle - absolutely NO GLASS containers. In addition, we will be eating lunch outside in a park, make sure your child is dressed in layers - the weather these days is so unpredictable.

We will be leaving the school at 8:30 am and will return before school ends.

We've been reading and learning about space camp, space shuttles and this week the moon.  Ask your child what he has learned about the space shuttle program so far!

This Thursday, Feb 13th, the 5th grade students will be having a tour of Frost MS during the school day.  We do not require chaperones for this 2 hour trip.

Monday, Feb. 17th school will be closed in honor of my birthday!! Oh, OK, in honor of President's Day!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Just want to give a huge shout out to all the students who presented their Heritage Reports yesterday.  Everyone did such an amazing job and it was truly fascinating to learn so much more about each and everyone of them.  For me, the most exciting thing I learned was that Sierra is related to Carlos Santana!!  I am now very much looking forward to the next round of reports tomorrow.

This Friday is the Valentine Rock Dance 6pm - 8pm.  Parents are not allowed to drop and leave their kids at school, they must stay at the dance as long as their child stays.

Well I welcome you back to a new year and trust that you all had a wonderful winter break.  It's hard to believe that we only have 6 months left before this school year is over!!

REMINDERS

1) Next Monday, Jan. 20th, school will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

2) If you haven't yet paid a deposit for the 5th grade overnight field trip, and your child is attending, please could you send that into us as soon as possible.

3) 5th grade students are going to begin working on their cultural/heritage report with an oral presentation due in approximately 3 weeks.  I will be sending home information about what the expectations are for the report by the end of the week.
